Q: How can I register to enter the festival?
A: Registration is done by online only.

Q: Can I register from abroad?
A: Yes, if you have internet access and can register to enter the festival online.

Q: What can I do if I do not have access to internet?
A: Please contact us.

Q: How can I make my payments?
A: You may pay by credit card or bank transfer.

Q: Can I register to enter the competition from a smartphone?
A: Yes, you can register from your smartphone.

Q: What is an group registration?
A: Please register if the you are affiliated with a school or an organization.

Q: Who should complete the registration for ensembles?
A: A representative or a coach should complete the group registration.

Q: Is a group registration required?
A: Yes, we can only send documents and scholarship information to either school or organization so please register.

Q: Can we still participate if our ensemble does not have any affiliation?
A: If you do not have any affiliation, you do not need to complete the group registration. Please write “free” to your group name.

Q: When do I find out the order of the competition?
A: We will let you know 2 to 4 weeks before the competition.

Q: Can I request a time for me to dance?
A: No, it is not possible for anyone to request for certain time.

Q: Can we participate in workshop only, or competition only, or pre-competitive only?
A: Yes it is possible.

Q: Can I make changes to my entry registration later?
A: No, entry registration cannot be changed later, however, if there is still space you may make an additional entry.

Q: Is it possible to cancel my entry registration?
A: Yes it is possible to cancel your entry registration but we cannot refund your payment. Please request your cancellation as soon as possible.

Q: Can you recommend accommodation during the festival?
A: We will provide information on our official hotel for the festival.

Workshop Q&A
Q: What can I wear to a workshop?
A:
Classical Ballet Workshop
Women: leotard, pink tights, ballet shoes and pointe shoes if you are older than 10 years old and have experience
Men: ballet attire, tights, socks, ballet shoes
Character Dance Workshop
Women: black leotard and black skirt
Men: same as classical ballet
Acting, Contemporary and Teachers’ Workshop
Women and Men: active clothes

Q: Can parents and guardians watch the classes?
A: No, parents and guardians are not allowed in classrooms but they may watch the recitals on the 3rd day and the 6th day. We plan to have the recitals at 16:00.

Q: What is the recital like?
A: The dancers will show what they have learned in the classes.

Q: Can I observe the recitals?
A: It is not open to the public but you may observe the recitals if you are related to the participants. Please request for tickets through the participants before the recitals.

Q: What is a scholarship workshop like?
A: It is an audition workshop for ballet schools and companies abroad. If you do not receive a scholarship during this workshop, you still have a chance at the competition to be accepted. If you are considering studying or dancing abroad in the future, you may still take this scholarship workshop.

Q: Can I participate just one day? I cannot participate all the dates.
A: Minimum participation is required for the first 3 days or the last 3 days. To achieve the most out of the workshop, we recommend participation for all 6 days. One day participation is possible only for teachers.

Q: Is there a difference in the workshop material covered in the first 3 days from the last 3 days?
A: It will be based on the same curriculum, however, the last 3 days may be more advanced.

Q: Is there men’s class?
A: Yes only for the last 3 days. We are planning to have the teacher from John Cranko to head the men’s class. If we do not have enough participants, we may cancel the class. The men can participate in the Vaganova Classical Ballet workshop during the first 3 days and if there is no men’s class, you can still take 6 days of Vaganova Classical Ballet workshop.

Q: Is there a requirement for teachers’ workshop?
A: If you are over 18 years of age and have interest in teaching in the future, you may take the workshop.

Q: What is the workshop during the competition like?
A: It is a workshop with the jury members of the competition.

Competition Q&A
Q: What is the difference between pre-competitive and competition?
A: Pre-competitive is for dancers who are not ready for competition yet, or not prize conscious but want to experience, and receive comments from the competition jury members and dance on the same stage as competition. There is no age limit and you may dance with ballet shoes.

Q: How big is the stage:
A: Width is 18m and depth is 16m

Q: Are parents and guardians allowed backstage?
A: Only dancers and someone with instructor’s pass are allowed backstage.

Q: Can I stay with my child?
A: No, only participants are allowed in the dressing rooms and stage areas.

Q: Can I take pictures or video of the competition?
A: No pictures or videos are allowed during the competition and the participants will be disqualified if their parents or guardians do not follow the rules.

Q: Can guardians or teachers stay with the participants around the stage area?
A: Only one person with an instructor’s pass is allowed by the stage.

Q: Does the on stage time include walking on and exiting off the stage?
A: If the on and off time do not exceed 10 seconds, it will not be included in the on stage time, however, there will be deductions if you use more than 10 seconds. It will be considered on stage time if you are dancing without music. If the music is playing with or without the participants on stage, it will be considered on stage time.

Q: Can I use props?
A: Yes but please check the entry requirements.

Q: Can I wear ballet shoes or pointe shoes?
A: The requirement is different by gender, dance or age categories so please check.

Q: Can I dance in a leotard?
A: Participants are required to wear a costume for classical ballet competition. Leotards are allowed for contemporary and jazz competition.

Q: Do I need to inform if I have free music?
A: Music is not required yet at the time of entry registration. We will ask you for music information after April.

Q: How can I send the music data I will use?
A: Please come with music data on 1 CD for the competition and another CD for backup. For pre-competitive, classical ballet, contemporary repertoire categories will be using the specified repertoire music so CDs are not required.

Prizes and Awards Q&A
Q: What is a Special Recognition Prize?
A: It is awarded to a participant who did not place but showed a significant talent that was noticed by the jury member.

Q: What is a Scholarship Prize?
A: It is an acceptance to school and/or a scholarship to study abroad.

Gala Concert Q&A
Q: What is a Gala Concert?
A: We invite professional dancers who are internationally active to perform at the Gala. Also a few participants from workshop and competition will be chosen to perform at the Gala.

Q: Will all the prize winners from the competition perform at the Gala?
A: Only the participants who were chosen will be able to perform at the Gala.

Q: Can I watch the competition and the gala?
A: They are both open to the public.
